The Sign is Ready!

So exciting! The post still needs the ball cap. We are storing the sign at the house for the time being. New date for opening is January. We finally got the approval letter from the town zoning committee and now have to submit a ton of stuff to the state.

The heat should be finished next week. Maybe I will be able to move my new HQ16 in upstairs so I can finish quilting all these sample quilts. Market was fab. I will detail in next post.

Keep checkin',

Quilting Stars

Oh gee, is this me with one of my favorite quilting superstars? Yes it really is Mark Lipinski and Shelley Sas together at the Houston airport after breakfast. Fate threw us together for cab rides to and from the Market. Market news will follow when I recover.

Quilting Samples

Sew, sew, sew! I've been busy!

This quilt is using Lake-House Drygoods, "Boy Oh Boy" Cutest baby boy fabric I've seen in a long time. The pattern is from the new book by Laurie Bevan,"Lickety-Split Quilts for Little Ones", Martingale Publishers. The block is a rolling nine patch.

Here is a baby girl version using a combo of Lakehouse "Cherry Baby", by Holly Holderman and Free Spirit's "Bijoux" by Heather Bailey and "Ava Rose" by Tanya Whelan. The pattern comes from the book "Baby Wraps" by Karla Alexander, Martingale Publishers. You can enlarge any photo here by clicking on it.

Iv'e also been making bags! This one uses Amy Butler's newest fabric line called "Daisy Chain" from Free Spirit. Here is another using Erin McMorris's "Park Slope" fabric in the teal color way. And from Denyse Schmidt's home dec line, "County Fair" another that is larger with longer handles. These bags are lined with contrasting fabric and have 6 pockets around the bottom. It is the easiest tote I have ever made. I want to teach a class using this pattern this winter. And there is more. I made my first fabric cube using double sided fusible heavy weight stabilizer. I used Anna Maria Horner's new fabric from Free Spirit called "Garden Party". The pattern is from her new book, "Seams to Me,24 Reasons to Love Sewing", Wiley Publishers. It was a little tricky, but my next one will be better. It is a large cube and will be great for stowing yarn or fabric!

I have the full line from these designers, just so you know, as well as the books. I have several new quilt tops to quilt. Next on my list to quilt is a Falling Leaves applique using a large sampling of my Kaffe Fasset fabric collection so stay tuned!

Looking Forward to Quilt Market

Thursday, October 23 I will be taking off for Houston! Judith, my quilting buddy, will be my traveling partner. We will be at the convention until Tuesday. We will be taking classes and attending promotional vendor events. I will focus on business seminars and have a long list of questions for all the quilting guru's and celebrities I meet.

I receive new shipments daily including gorgeous 100% wool for dyeing, so lightweight it is incredible. Also rich ,vibrant colors of wool felt, plus overdyed houndstooth checked wool by "Weeks Dye Works" that looks so great in folk art wall hangings and table toppers.

I am planning the Grand Opening and special events for this winter. I have so many ideas it's tough to sleep!

I miss my boys terribly so here is a picture of them from last winter. Jon on the left, Matt on the right, holding the charm square quilt I made for Jon and Joyce(girlfriend). I will see them this Christmas!!

The shop is still under renovation but moving along. We will be digging the post for the new sign before the ground freezes! Will have to figure out the best placement.

I will have much to report after Quilt Market.

Shelley
