We have sewing machines you can reserve at the shop.The October and November Schedules are coming soon! Every Tuesday is "Open Sewing" Bring a project in progress and sew with other quilters. Happy Sewing, Shelley August 12, 2009 August  BOO! Hello friends. We have been so busy at the shop. It is time for a new post. We are gearing up for foliage season here in Vermont as well as Halloween and Christmas. It might seem a tad early, but we have lots of sewing to do before these holidays are upon us. Alexander Henry has such clever prints for Halloween...   Too cute. We have bats, spiders, candy corn, pumpkins and more! Our customers have enjoyed our monthly "Snap Sack" program. Each month we offer small quilt kits with all the fabric needed including the back and binding to create a mini quilt in a "snap". At $12.99 what a great gift for a fellow quilter. For August our"Snap Sack" is called "Summer Bloom". We used "Savon Bouquet" by Free Spirit in the kits.  Sweet, huh? This was pieced and quilted by our talented manager, Judith. Amy Butler has come out with sewing projects on CD! 22 new projects, plus 9 bonus projects for the home-quilts, pillows, and bags. You can customize the patterns in thousands of ways using the software's tools and virtual swatches of Amy's vibrant fabrics. This is a "stand alone" software and does not require a special program to run. It is also compatible with "EQ6" quilting software.  We have had tons of fun playing around with this! Classes are coming! I will be publishing our Fall/Winter schedule of classes soon. We will have a few guest teachers this session. Carolyn Van Tassell will be teaching some "Deb Tucker" favorites, "Rapid Fire Hunter Star" and "Spinning Pinwheels" and another pattern called "Strips Around the Stars" We will offer these classes on one weekday and on one Saturday in September, October and November. Kim Seymour, the owner of the charming "Colonial House" Bed and Breakfast, just down the road from us, will be teaching two "Tumbling Block" classes. This is a perfect pattern to showcase our wonderful Christmas Fabric. Her classes will be held on a weekday as her "Inn Keeping" duties keep Kim quite busy on the weekends. Dianne Yelton our resident weaver and crafter will be teaching a "Wool Ornament" class based on the book by Indygo Junction, "Merry & Bright" by Marilyn Gash. You have to come in and see the ornaments Dianne made for the shop samples. She will teach wool applique and beading techniques in this fun class. We have reserved two Thursdays for this class. Dianne will also be teaching Amy Butler's "Birdie Sling" bag, a large, roomy tote on two weekdays this Fall. I will be teaching Art Quilting 1 and Art Quilting 2 in late October, Wool Penny Rug Applique, Photo Transfer Quilt, Christmas Stocking, Christmas table runner and place mat classes and a machine applique class using fusible web to create those beautiful maple leaves many of you have admired on our shop sample "Maple Leaf Quilt". I will offer beginning quilters "My First Quilt" in two parts. So many of you have admired the blue and white strip quilt here at the shop that I will be teaching a fun scrappy "Crazy Strip" class as well. There will be kits available for all classes. All supplies you purchase at the shop for your classes receive a 10% discount. Remember that our "Frequent Buyer's Card" offers you a 20% discount after you have spent $200 at the store. Also our books are 10% off every day. Look for our Thursday and weekend Specials. Last weekend we offered buy one pattern, get the 2nd 50% off. This Thursday, August 13th and Saturday the 15th we offer buy five fat quarters, get one free. Oh boy! Last but not least, here is my sweet niece "Olivia" who is traveling in England this month with her parents visiting her maternal relatives. I can't wait to teach her how to sew! I think she can start when she's five.  What a doll! And a real girlie girl!  I made her this pillow from Holly Holderman's for LakeHouse Drygoods alphabet panel and coordinating prints, Olivia uses it as a table for her tea parties.
