| January 29, 2011 Brights,Brights,Brights! We are loving brights on white! Here is my king size beauty, using Denyse Schmidt's line "Hope Valley" and Kona Cotton, "Snow". We are sold out of this line , but we have some beautiful brights available at the shop. For this quilt, I simply put nine patch units on point alternating with plain white blocks.  The border is made from nine patch units cut in half and sewed end to end. Kelly did a fabulous job of quilting. Kitty "May" approves!   Quilting Detail.  Some brights we have bundled for you, 12 fat quarters specially priced at $29.25. Pair with a few yards of Kona White and you are good to go! Yummy orange,hot pink, turquoise and lime round out this collection of mainly Erin McMorris' collection, "Park Slope" from Free Spirit. Sewers around the country have been hoarding their stash of this line and we still have some in stock!  And speaking of brights. This kit contains the "Soul Blossom" line by Amy Butler and the pattern by "Atkinson Designs" pattern "Urban Cabin" Another example of brights on white.  Here is a detail of the quilt. The kit is $89.00 for a 65"x88" quilt. The pattern alone is $8.00.  Meg, our seamstress in residence, whipped up this darling skirt using several Amy Butler Lines, including her latest, "Soul Blossoms". The pattern is from the book "Sew Seredipity" by Kay Whitt. Meg is available on Saturdays for garment sewing classes using our wonderful fabrics. If you have 2 sewing buddies, call the shop to schedule a class.  Here's all of Meg! We have been busy with the Improv Quilting Classes and the Improv Club. In February we have scheduled 2 new Improv Classes on Saturday, February 5th or Friday, February 18th from 10:30 am- 12:30 pm. Cost is $15 plus a $10 materials fee. You will learn various "improvisational" quilting techniques based on books by some of our favorite "liberated designers" such as...  Gwen Marston. Here is an improvisational quilt using fabric from Valori Wells "Nest" collection.  I started with the center panels and worked out adding sashing and borders. Oh, and by the way, we have received our shipment of that wonderful toweling from Moda. Remember Judith's wonderful bag?  We have the toweling with red bands as well. Think, kitchen towels, table runners, place mats, napkins, aprons and more. The toweling is $5.49 per yard. Call the shop to order any of these goodies and we will ship to your door. Have you ever worked with Laminated fabric? Make a tote bag, rain-jacket, poncho, bib or table topper with this super soft material. This is not like oilcloth! We just received two new laminated fabrics from Amy Butler and Tanja Whelan Remember "Spot" that adorable puppy from the children's books? Just in, is Spot on fabric from Moda.   Judith couldn't wait to make this sample for the shop! Also new this month is "Totes on Bolts" from Lakehouse. Purchase 3 panels and you can make a "Veranda Tote" bag with the pattern by Penny Sturgess. Or the same 3 panels will make a snazzy apron. Just cut out the pieces for each project on the dotted lines printed on each fabric panel. How cool is that? Call the shop to sign up for the "Veranda Tote" class scheduled for Friday, January 21st or Saturday January 29th from 10:30-3:30.  You can make this tote bag with fat quarters of your choice as well. I made this one with Amy Butler's new "Soul Blossom" line.  This bag has nice shaping and tons of pockets and is very interesting to make. Speaking of Amy B, here is another quilt made by Kelly to show of Amy's newest line. This is an "Atkinson Design" pattern called "Urban Cabin". We love brights with white!  Here's a detail of the quilt. We still have a few spots left in our Improv Quilting Classes scheduled for Friday, January 14th or Saturday, January 22. 10:30-12:30. Become familiar with modern, improvisational piecing techniques. It will make you very, very happy!  Here is my quilt....  Love the snowflake fabric. This is a small quilt 45x36. Quick and adorable! Also of note, 2 books , "Material Obsession 1" and "Material Obsession 2" have all of us drooling. This is quilt book to read cover to cover! Talk about inspiration! Call to order.
