Closer to Christmas

Snow's a bit deep...time for the booties!
About 17 inches today.

Yesterday we had our "Festival of Trees" gathering. Snow prevented some trees from coming to the party. But here is our forest...

We had an "Elvis" tree...Jude's Elvis fabric just fit the bill here!

Love the Kaffe Dots too!

Sue's tree was truly lit!

Battery packs and all!

Elizabeth did a very Modern tree in shade of gray with colorful felt balls seen here on the left...

Gina's tree on the right had a neat "trapunto" effect with extra batting inserted behind the tree.

Claire's tree still to be decorated. Great job on those tiny flying geese on the tree skirt. This is her first attempt at paper piecing. I think she is a natural!

Lydia's tree was bright and happy...

Nice quilting too!

One more paper pieced wall hanging to share... "The Carpenter's Wreath" this pattern like the "Tall Tree" is also by Cindy Edgerton.

This is my version. 21" square. The pattern will make 4 wreaths.

We are gearing up for January with the debut of an Australian pattern designer that is new to us, Jen Kingwell. Here is my progress on "Chain of Fools". A great scrap busting quilt. I am using all of my orange to purple range of Kaffe Collective fabrics. It's fun to use those pieces that are now out of print.

Early progress. I have also been playing around with these fun flowers using the Kanzashi Template by Clover.

Seems the "Liberty Lawn" fabrics make great flowers as the fabric is thinner.

We have a few new arrivals..."Botanical" by Snow Leopard for Free Spirit.

We have the precuts only. Fat quarters, charm packs and jelly rolls.

This is the first collection from Philip Jacobs for Free Spirit fabrics. You might recognize his style. He is a regular designer for Kaffe Fassett. His prints are lucious florals and this collection is no exception. There are 30 prints in the precuts.

Also in charm packs we have "Just My Type" by Patty Young for Michael Miller Fabrics.

There are (30) 5" squares in each pack.

Fun huh? Charm packs make great stocking stuffers. Slip one in your own stocking!
We gave a sneak preview of our 2014 Block of the Month to our "Tree" quilters yesterday. "Section 1" was revealed to raves and squeals! I am so happy they liked our selection. You won't see this BOM anywhere else! Sorry but you will have to wait just a bit longer to see pictures. Judith and I are planning the rest of the quilt and the pricing. If you get my emails, you can be among the first to sign up.

OKAY!!!! Here is one block that is a part of section 2...

This BOM will be divided into sections with the blocks and the settings completed each month. The fabrics will be curated from all over the shop. We are having a ball just selecting the fabrics and making the blocks. Just a few more weeks before the sign up period will begin. Promise!

Donna Z. just sent me a pic of her "Swoon" Quilt from our 2013 BOM. Love the quilting and the extra border! Many of our "Swooners" have completed their quilts. Way to sew ladies!
This was a great BOM, but our next one will be even more exciting!

Remember, we will close at 4 pm on December 24th and are closed Christmas Day. We will also be closed on New Years Day. Check your email right after Christmas to see our new BOM!

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone!

Happy Sewing!

Early December

Glad it's still early December! Seems like there's so much to do in so little time! We have some specials going on in the Shop to tell you about...

Our End of the Bolt Sale

We have selected bolts from different fabric lines that have 1-3 yards left on the bolt. Finish a bolt and get 25% off the regular price. This offer is only good on pre selected stock located in the classroom. Shop early for the best selection! Robert Kaufman, Windham Fabrics, Timeless Treasures, Free Spirit, Blend, Dear Stella, Westminster Fibers and more are included in this sale. These bolts have never been on sale. We have to make room for new fabric collections coming soon!

Don't forget all of the classic Amy Butler Fabrics are $5 per yard while supplies last.

Here are some new arrivals...

Julie Herman's latest pattern, "Night Sky" uses Kona solids and her "Side Kick ruler.

You can use this ruler for many other patterns including...

This is a fun little table topper to make.

"Bouillabaisse" is back in stock from "Pie In The Sky Quilts"

A super stash busting quilt! This would make a great "Challenge Quilt" Hmmm-will have to think about that!

We have some crafty type patterns in stock too...

"Hang In There Kitty"

This is a cute 9" long kitty made with fabric that "just hangs around". The bottom half is weighted with uncooked rice or crushed walnuts.

This brother and sister pair of cuddly soft pals are designed by Jennifer Jangles. Otis and Rhubarb have additional embellishments sold separately.

Finished size is 16" tall. Here are the buttons, eyes and nose for each...

For Otis

For Rhubarb. These buttons are hand painted...adorable!

Speaking of buttons. We have some Christmas novelty buttons and ribbons in stock for those Holiday projects.

These are from "Dress It Up" button company.
Love the polka dot buttons...

Bow buttons too. These make great embellishments for those tall Christmas trees we have been making.

Also in the "Crafty" category we have the Kanzashi Flower Makers from Clover.
This size will make a 3" in diameter daisy type fabric flower. So cool for pins, hair accessories, bags and more... We have a smaller one too!

A few new notions to share. This tool is wonderful for seam pressing, ironing your seams open, holding small pieces of fabric while sewing and ironing and more. It has a silicon heat resistant tip on one end and a stilleto like curved point on the other end. Very comfortable in the hand.

"Press Perfect" by Joan Hawley for Clover. $12.95 Love the angled tip for good reach and visibility at the sewing maching. And no more burned fingers at the ironing board.

Have you tried "Soft and Stable" yet? It is a sew in stabilizer that is really a foam layer that gives totes, bags and home dec accessories a very professional finish. We have it in black or white. It comes in a variety of sizes.

A new book by Amanda Murphy uses Kona solid precuts.

We have both "Sunrise" and "Sunset" jelly rolls in stock to make several of the projects from the book. We also have an array of Kona solid fat quarters.

These will make beautiful quilts!
