January 2016 Snippets

We are so excited to announce our new Block of the Month Programs for

2016

We are offering three different quilt options this year. We hope you will join us for one, two or all three of these amazing quilting journeys. Remember they are by mail only!

Our first Block of the Month is an 8 month program called "My Small World" by Jen Kingwell our favorite Australian designer.

This is a wall hanging that finishes at 52"x33". This adventure features several piecing techniques including traditional piecing, applique and even some embroidery. If you participated in our "Gypsy Wife" BOM, you will be glad to know that Judith will be in charge of this program. Each month you will receive additional instructions and helpful construction tips to assist you as you navigate through Jen's pattern booklet. The quilt will be sewn in sections using our wonderful, fun fabrics. Here is Judith's first section...

The deadline for registering for this BOM is the 15th of January. The program will begin the last week of January. Call the shop to register. 802-824-5700.

The first month you will be charged $47.50 for the pattern booklet and the fabric to complete section #1. Subsequent months you will be auto charged $19.50.

If you have visited the shop lately you may have noticed our infatuation with the new English Paper Piecing phenomenon. EPP is not just hexagons and "Grandma's Flower Garden" anymore! Today's designers have added a new twist to the technique of using paper foundation shapes covered with fabric to make "pieced" hexagons.

Our 2nd Block of the Month offering is called "Smitten" by Lucy Kingwell (Jen's daughter). Lucy has constructed (25) large 12" hexagon blocks from a variety of paper foundation pieces. Based on a 3 " hexagon, you will use diamonds, triangles, half hexies and whole hexies to make a variety of larger hexagon blocks.

This quilt finishes at 41"x61". Our version will feature fabrics by Denyse Schmidt and Jen Kingwell. Here is Shelley's finished version...

The first month you will receive the pattern, the paper foundation pieces, the acrylic template set, and fabric for the first two blocks.

The first month you will be charged $52.00 for all of these items. Subsequent month's charges will be $25 for 11 months.

"Smitten" Deadline for registering is 20th of January. The program will begin the 2nd week of February.

Based on the book "The New Hexagon" by Katja Marek, Liza and Kim created 2 different sampler quilts. We will be creating our own version using all Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics.

This is Kim Mclean's version. The quilt will finish at 96"x90". Each month you will get the paper foundation pieces and fabrics to make (28) 6" pieced hexie blocks. This is a 12 month program. You will need several other items to make this project flow smoothly.
